Spaghetti before the game
The Future Business Leaders of America at Northern Heights High School will serve spaghetti, salad, bread, desserts and drinks from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday before the home football game against Chase County High School. The meal costs $5 in advance or $7.50 at the door. Tickets are available from FBLA members.
Food in Virgil
The Virgil United Methodist Church is sponsoring its annual ingathering Saturday at the fellowship hall. A menu of smothered steak or ham loaf, potatoes, green beans, slaw and dessert will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. Adults cost $6.50; children 7 and under, $3. At 6:30, an auction of collectibles begins. Organizers said there will be a quilt raffle and door prizes.
Penny Supper in Hartford
A new year of Penny Suppers begins Saturday in Hartford. The menu is ham loaf, chicken pie, liver and onions, vegetables, salads, homemade noodles, rolls, cornbread, homemade pies and ice cream. Serving begins at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Hartford Methodist Church.
Soup in Allen
Proceeds from a soup supper Monday night will benefit the North Lyon County Senior Center in Allen. Vegetable soup, chili, sandwiches, homemade desserts and drinks will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. A free will offering will be taken. Also during the night, a quilt will be raffled off. Tickets for the raffle are available at the senior center and S&A Telephone in Allen, as well as from Betty Shope, Wanda Spade, Janet Bathurst, Illa Ferdinand, Phil Aye and Carol or Allen Curless.
Quilts wanted
The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Service South Central Region is collecting new quilts for Kansas children in foster care and awaiting adoption at Christmas. Donations are accepted through Nov. 30. For information, call the Emporia SRS office, 342-2505.
Pizza for Mariah
Beginning Monday and running through Oct. 3, Pyramid Pizza will donate 15 percent from every regularly priced purchase to Mariah Serrano, a local teen who was injured in an automobile accident in May. Purchasers must mention Mariah when ordering to secure the donation. The offer is good on deliveries, carry-out and dining in, including lunch buffet purchases.
