Wonderful pediatrician

I recently found out that Emporia and the surrounding communities are going to lose a wonderful pediatrician, Dr. Milburn.
This community only had two pediatricians to start with. Dr. Milburn was the main one who works at the hospital and the only one in the Cotton O’Neil Clinic. He is on call for pediatrician problems 24/7.
Dr. Milburn was there when my two children were born via C-section. He treated many ear infections, pneumonia, shots, and he helped save my niece’s life when she was born with life-threatening problems.
He is one of few doctors that takes the time to sit down and ask you and or your child questions about what is going on. He takes the time to look at the past medical history, previous medical charts, and reports from other doctors and hospitals about your child. He is also always educating parents about childcare and illnesses.
If he is unsure of a question, he will find the answer before you leave his office. That trait is seen less and less in doctors. I never felt rushed in and out of his office. I can without a doubt say Dr. Milburn puts his patients needs and well being first. His spot will be a hard one to fill.
I finally found a doctor for my kids that I like and trust, and my kids like and trust. I want to take this opportunity to say good job, Dr. Milburn. My kids and I will miss you!”

We, too, will miss Dr. Milburn. He was the only doctor in town willing to take on my granddaughter and her special needs. Not only is he a wonderful doctor, but he found us a wonderful doctor at KU Med Center to help treat her autism. He has always been there for us in between our visits to KC. I really don't know what we would have done without him. And I don't know what we'll do now!

I too have a special needs daughter. He was wonderful helping me find specialist for her. He was good about knowing what is best for that particular child and knowing that if something was wrong he thought Newmans couldn't handle he would not mess with admitting them there, instead just send them to childrens mercy of somewhere else.

Without a pediatrician at the hospital if you deliver your baby and something is wrong or the baby can't breath on its own and needs a tube put in more than likely you will be waiting until a flight crew from stormont or childrenc mercy can come in.

Thank you, Erin. I am very distraught that our most trusted doctor is leaving. Even though my kids are healthy and rarely need to go see a doctor, I always knew I could trust him implicitly. I know some were put off by his manner, but in not hastening to judge, I was able to learn why he is that way and how he uses the reactions to decide a course of action. I learned that he isn't being abrupt, so much as not wanting to make you listen to him forever, but he is happy to listen to you. I also learned why he went into pediatric medicine after being a pharmacist for several years and that reason made me trust him all the more. I have always taken every opportunity to tell him how much we appreciate him and I'm glad I have. I am so happy for him in this opportunity for him to be closer to his family, but I am unsure which move to make next on selecting a new doctor for my children. He told me that there are plans to fill the position with another pediatrician, but it isn't just the title/specialty that makes me trust a doctor---it's the person.
Congratulations Dr. Milburn...you will be missed!!!

I get removed for saying I am glad he is leaving due to past encounters, and I wouldn't let him touch a child of mine. Jeez someone is touchy.

I too was sad to hear he is leaving. I was very impressed with the care my children recieved. He is a man who knows what he doesn't know - and gets kids referred on fast - which is rare in the medical field. He spent his career caring for the kids in our community. That is something to be proud of. He wil be missed.

"Wonderful Pediatrician" Whatever! I took my son to him one time. That was enough for me. He was so rude and treated my son so bad that I would not take my dog to him!

Emporian, First time we took our kid to Dr. Milburn, we were alittle put off by his personality. He was alittle more outspoken than most emporians, but we looked past the personality traits and paid attention to his competency. We feel that there is a time in everyone's life when their prayers are answered, and ours where answered when Milburn took our kid his patient. Our lives had become bogged down with a demanding medication schedule and a miserable feeling child who the local doctors could never seem to be of much help. Our kid's health and activity level is 110 percent better after being treated by the Dr. We have been well educated by him and though we sadly will miss Dr. Milburn, he has given us the ability to care for our kid much easier than before we met him. Emporia has no idea what they are losing by letting this good Dr. leave, but at the same time, he will be very valuable to the kids in the town he is going to. Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that Dr. Milburn sees himself as someone who is there to improve the health and lives of the kids that come to his office. Also, the number of office visits and the amount of prescriptions we had went down considerable after we started going to Dr. Milburn.
