One person received injuries early this morning in two separate, but consecutive, semi-tractor trailer accidents in the northbound lane of the Kansas Turnpike south of Emporia.
Kansas Highway Patrol Turnpike troopers still were working at the accident site shortly after 8 a.m. this morning.
The first accident, involving one semi, was reported at 4:55 a.m., at Milepost 114, about 13 miles south of the Emporia Turnpike interchange.
Soon after, the second accident was reported.
“One had an accident, and then another one came along and hit it afterwards,” a KHP dispatcher said.
The call for emergency medical services came in at the Emporia Fire Department at 5:02 a.m.,according to the fire and emergency medical service response log. A call for assistance with traffic control came to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department at 5:08 a.m., and two deputies responded.
Northbound lanes on the Turnpike were blocked temporarily, with one lane cleared quickly and opened to through traffic.
“It was blocked completely for a little bit,” the dispatcher said.
The EMS log showed that one person was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
The name of the injured person was not available by deadline this morning.
