Dog houses will come off an assembly line Saturday at the Anderson Building on the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
The project, which will begin at 8 a.m., has been organized by the Lyon County Humane Society, and is intended to help provide housing for dogs that live outside or must be left out for long periods of time, according to Judy Dieker, executive director of the humane society.
All of the houses will be given away to people who cannot afford to purchase dog houses for their dogs.
Volunteers are needed to help at the build, and professional skills are not required.
“They can spend the day or they can come and just work for an hour or two, whatever works best for them,” Dieker said earlier.
Area business have donated a variety of supplies and food for the workers, including Mark II Lumber and Sutherland’s, the Granada Coffee Company, Amanda’s Cafe and Bakery, and Bad Ol’ Bern’s BBQ and Ice Cream. Donors in the community have contributed money earmarked to be spent for food, and dog biscuits provided by Emporia Pet Products will be distributed to take home for pets.
