$1M bond set in murder case

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Samuel D. Llamas, 21, of Emporia made his first appearance in Lyon County District Court Monday afternoon on charges related to the shooting death of Omar Gerardo Flores earlier this month.

Llamas is charged with aiding and abetting an unknown person in the commission of first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. An alternative count is felony murder, alleging that Llamas commited murder while committing the felony of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He remains in jail in lieu of $1 million bond.

Flores, 25, was shot about 8:10 p.m. Sept. 8 in the parking lot of a motel at 3181 W. Highway 50. He died several days later at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Police announced the Llamas arrest on Thursday afternoon, giving credit to multiple agencies for assistance in the investigation.

Those included the Lyon County Attorney’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
