$1M bond set in murder case

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Samuel D. Llamas, 21, of Emporia made his first appearance in Lyon County District Court Monday afternoon on charges related to the shooting death of Omar Gerardo Flores earlier this month.

Llamas is charged with aiding and abetting an unknown person in the commission of first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. An alternative count is felony murder, alleging that Llamas commited murder while committing the felony of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He remains in jail in lieu of $1 million bond.

Flores, 25, was shot about 8:10 p.m. Sept. 8 in the parking lot of a motel at 3181 W. Highway 50. He died several days later at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Police announced the Llamas arrest on Thursday afternoon, giving credit to multiple agencies for assistance in the investigation.

Those included the Lyon County Attorney’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Thanks for the post, FarmRaised. I had to read it a couple of times to understand who all the different people are and I'm still somewhat confused. Not the fault of the reporter, just the way criminal activity can run such crazy routes. I wonder why the train? Cheaper? Less scrutiny? And why would this Aldrete woman go on a train trip with a man she didn't know? It would take a schematic just to keep all this in order. Whew!

Ahh, I didn't know she had a child with Flores. You know, I can't help but think about the future of education in this country with so many people on drugs, many while they are pregnant. The fetus has no chance, and the education system gets bogged down with all the special aid that must be offered.

There is much to be said for what pregnant women do when they smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs. Now we learn that there is a ranch in Montana specifically for children with organic brain injuries induced while mom was pregnant and doing drugs. Fetal alcohol syndrome, for one, is a sad, sad condition that damages the brain permanently.
