Descendants of Charles Lewis and Margaret Alice Jones Whittington met Sept. 6 at the Sauder Community Center in Madison for the annual Whittington reunion.
It was noted that a member of the family, Hildred Marshall Whittington (Mrs. John Whittington) of Lebo, died Sept. 27, 2008.
This year’s reunion began by honoring the older generation member of each of the family members of Charles and Margaret Whittington.
Family memories and and photographs were shared over a potluck dinner.
The Whittington reunion began in the 1920s in Kansas and earlier, the reunions were held in Kentucky where the Whittington ancestors lived.
The family of Charles and Margaret Whittington have all died: Phillip, Sadie, Artie, Anna, Ben, Lida, Charles, Thomas, Leslie and Rhoda Mae. Those attending related to Artie Mae Whittington Ford were: Chuck and Connie Williams and family of Rocky Mount, Mo.; Harvey and Judy Kilner of California, Mo.; and Ritta Draffen of Tipton, Mo.
Those attending who were related to Annie Whittington Hamman were Richard and Susie Edwards of Halstead.
Phillip H. and Susan Mae McKinney Whittington had two daughters: Ruth Whittington Reaka (Mrs. Byron Reaka) and Marjorie Whittington Martin; and seven sons: Clyde, John, Louis, David, Leslie, Gene and Jacob Whittington.
Those attending related to Ruth Whittington Reaka were Phil Reaka of Paola and Aman Reaka of Eudora.
Attending with Marjorie Whittington Martin of Madison were her family: Robert and Vickie Griffith, Brenda Meyer, Clint and Rachel Ballard, Hannah and Colton, Raymond and Sharon Martin, all of Madison; Cline Meyer of Salina; Natalie Meyer of Topeka; Jason and Christine and Josie Crawford of Reading; Terry and Jill Griffith and family of Topeka.
