A 4-2 record and a fifth-place finish at the Maize Invitational had Emporia High volleyball coach Ashley Nehls happy about the way her team performed on Saturday.
The Spartans lost their match against Maize and former coach Betsy Martling in two sets to close pool play, but won both of their matches in bracket play, including a 25-18, 25-22 victory over Moundridge in the fifth-place match. It was the second time EHS had beaten Moundridge after winning the teams’ opening game of pool play in three sets, 21-25, 25-19, 25-16.
