Highland Park scored on two free kicks to beat Emporia High 2-1 on Thursday at Highland Park.
The Spartans got a goal in the 12th minute from Jesus Saldana and led 1-0 at half, and lost despite outshooting Highland Park 17-7.
“Now as the season is moving along, I see now what I was afraid of at the beginning of the season, our forwards can’t finish,” EHS coach Angel Cornejo said. “We have a week before our next match. We need to regroup and work on many things to improve as a team.”
