The autumn series of Sundays on the Porch at the William Allen White House State Historic Site, 927 Exchange St., begins at 2 p.m. with the program, “Good Food and Hospitality Stories on the Porch,” presented by Regina Murphy of The Gazette. Murphy will give a talk about William Allen White’s love of food and the dinners he and Sallie White had at Red Rocks. This program will be given “in the spirit of the White family as gracious hosts,” stated the news release. After the program, free ice cream will be served.
At 2 p.m. Sept. 27, “Acoustic Music on the Porch” will feature the acoustic music of Casey Cagle. This program is given as a “nod to W.A. White, a self-taught musician and house dance band member,” stated the news release.
At 2 p.m. Oct. 4, the program will be “Poetry on the Porch III,” featuring Kevin Rabas, co-director of the Creative Writing Program at ESU and local poets reading their recent works. This event is a recognition of William Allen White, who also was a poet.
On the Porch series of programs are free of charge. Donations in support of the site will be accepted. Participants can tour the site from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday for $3 for adults; $1 for students; and no charge for children five year and younger.
