Launching Pacesetters

THE UNITED WAY’S 2009 Pacesetter Campaign was launched last week with much energy, enthusiasm, and appreciation for the 27 businesses — and their thousands of employees — who help pave the way for a successful United Way campaign each year.
Pacesetter, according to the Encarta Dictionary is “a person or group regarded as being a leader in any field and one whom others may emulate.”
And what leaders our Pacesetters are. Because of their commitment to get involved early and to offer motivation and encouragement to their employees, our Pacesetters are responsible for raising more than half of our goal each year. Last year, the Pacesetters raised $349,458, which was 63 percent of our campaign funds. The year before, they raised $363,725, which represented 59 percent of our campaign funds. What commitment. What support. What compassion. Yes, leaders indeed.
The Pacesetter companies are big and small, locally owned and national corporations, thriving and struggling. Yet, they all recognize the importance of giving back to our community and are committed to their leadership role with the United Way. We thank and salute our Pacesetter companies and their employees:
• Bank of America
• Camoplast Rockland
• Detroit Deisel
• ESB Financial
• Emporia’s Radio Stations
• Fanestil Meats
• Glendo Corporation
• Hopkins Manufacturing

The Pacesetters launch our campaign with success, and it is through the support and generosity of everyone in our community, that our campaigns end in success. This success allows the 24 United Way agencies to focus their efforts and resources on providing the critical services that are needed in our community.
When you give to the United Way, whether during the Pacesetter campaign or the general campaign, you become a leader in our community. A leader who understands the importance of keeping our communities strong. A leader who wants to improve the lives of our fellow residents. A leader who knows that when one thrives, we can all thrive. Thank you to all of our current and future leaders. You help us Live United.

With Detroit Diesel laying-off 50% by years end, does that not reduce their "pace-setter" total?
