Even experienced parents experience anxiety and frustration when their baby is crying and won’t stop, and Newman Regional Health is giving parents the tools to cope when that happens.
The Period of Purple Crying program from the National Center of Shaken Baby Syndrome is a program that parents watch before they leave the hospital. It is designed to let parents know that inconsolable crying in an infant is normal. Each parent of a new infant is asked to watch the DVD while in the hospital and are given a copy of the DVD along with an 11-page booklet to take home, said Nicole Howe, director of the Women’s Life Center at Newman Regional Health.
