Perhaps lost among all the things that have gone right in Emporia High’s first two games — which includes just about everything — is the fact that the Spartans might have themselves one heck of a directional punter.
Good punting is going to get naturally overlooked when a team is averaging 34 points per game and is beating its opponents by an average of more than 20 points. But when the Spartans finally find themselves in a tight game late — which could easily happen this week at Junction City — the foot of kicker-punter Jacob Loucks is going to be crucial. Thus far, Loucks is looking as if he’ll have his role in the field-position battle covered.
