Jaguars win one at home quad

Thursday, September 17, 2009

The Hartford volleyball team went 1-2 at a home quad on Tuesday.

The Jaguars defeated Word of Life in two sets to start off, easily beating the visitors 25-5, 25-6. Hartford served at a 90 percent clip, with Samantha Wilkerson, Kristen Williams, Kellie Farr and Amy Thomsen all serving 100 percent. Leah Roberts had five aces and Michelle St. Bonnett added four. Farr had four kills.

But Hartford couldn’t dominate Marais des Cygnes Valley or Wichita Defenders in the same way. MdCV beat the Jags in three sets, 21-25, 25-21, 15-25. Mikayla Wilson had three aces for Hartford, Farr had 12 kills and Wilkerson served at 100 percent; as a team, the Jags served at an 86 percent clip.

“Kristen Williams was perfect for the night setting and running the offense,” Hartford coach Paul Cassity said. “We kept getting in a hole and having to fight back.”
