The ABC’s of fall gardening

Thursday, September 17, 2009

As fall approaches and the gardening season winds down we should take advantage of the cooler weather and enjoy our private and public gardens.

Evaluate gardening successes of the year and what changes need to be made for next year. Take notes and refer to them as you plan for the next growing season.

Several gardening activities continue to be timely during the fall. Here is an alphabetical list for you to consider.

For complete story see the print edition and the online print edition.

Isn't this a good time to be trimming back all those overgrown bushes....especially those that block intersection views? I may have that backward, but it seems that I read that now is the time to do that so the new growth next spring will leaf out more evenly as well as growing into the desired perimeter?????

After plants go dormant is a better time to prune them, so hold off until late fall/early winter.
