With a zoning variance granted and a blitz of remodeling and redecorating completed, the Lighthouse Baptist Church has planned an open house for the public from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at its new location, 4602 W. 18th Ave.
The building, formerly the Par for the Course golf shop and driving range, is the church’s first formal home in Emporia. Members had met for about eight years at the Emporia Senior Center.
The Rev. Roy Ferguson, pastor of the church, said that the church had used 19 Emporia businesses to turn the golf shop into a church.
“We did have to go out of town for a few items not available here, but we made a real effort to ‘Shop Emporia First’ whenever possible,” Ferguson said. “We are hoping some of the suppliers and curious people in the community will drop by Saturday and take a look. It’s not a large building, but for now it works for us and it is indeed an amazing transformation.”
The church’s dedication service will be Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.
