Redeker sentenced

Monday, September 14, 2009

Darin Michael Redeker will be on probation for 24 months as a result his no-contest plea to a charge of attempted exploitation of a child under 18 years of age.

Chief Judge Merlin Wheeler initially sentenced Redeker to 12 months in prison and 12 months of supervision to follow during a sentencing hearing this morning in Lyon County District Court.

Because of Redeker's favorable criminal history report, his sentence qualified as "presumptive probation."

To read complete story see the print edition or the online print edition.

Have you ever seen the map that shows all the sex offenders that live in our area? For such a small community to have so many makes it appear like the DOJ is dumping them here.

Considering none of you know the specific details of what actually happened, I don't see how you can come to such harsh conclusions as to the sentencing. Hang him? Let me tell you something, if you think he needs to be hung for what he did, there would be a lot of dead people out there today. There was no physical contact. There was a short period of electronic communication. I'm not condoning the actions, but the punishment is plenty. Especially considering he can't even go into restaurants. Put it this way, I know many of the details and don't let your imaginations run too wild with this. There are a lot of factors involved that led to it and it doesn't take much these days for something to be a felony.

He is a good kid that has done a lot of good in his life. Various circumstances led to this situation. He will now pay for his mistake for the rest of his life. Nobody feels worse about it than he does. He has accepted responsibility for his actions and will now pay for them. It's time to forgive.

does that mean we need to look for people with bad records to care for and teach our kids because if they have a good record they have a get out of jail free card verrry scarry the first time should be the last time if we truly cared for our kids!

I don't know any of the facts, but how innocent really is the victim in this case. I've seen too many young girls that look and act a lot older. They seem to delight in teasing and flirting without meaning anything until they get caught. Then they act all innocent and sweet when their not.

MrCmonkeeDo (anonymous) says...

Myth:
"Most sex offenders reoffend."

Fact:
Reconviction data suggest that this is not the case. Further, reoffense rates vary among different types of sex offenders and are related to specific characteristics of the offender and the offense.

Persons who commit sex offenses are not a homogeneous group, but instead fall into several different categories. As a result, research has identified significant differences in reoffense patterns from one category to another. Looking at reconviction rates alone, one large-scale analysis (Hanson and Bussiere, 1998) reported the following differences:

# child molesters had a 13% reconviction rate for sexual offenses and a 37% reconviction rate for new, non-sex offenses over a five year period; and
# rapists had a 19% reconviction rate for sexual offenses and a 46% reconviction rate for new, non-sexual offenses over a five year period.

Another study found reconviction rates for child molesters to be 20% and for rapists to be approximately 23% (Quinsey, Rice, and Harris, 1995).

Individual characteristics of the crimes further distinguish recidivism rates. For instance, victim gender and relation to the offender have been found to impact recidivism rates. In a 1995 study, researchers found that offenders who had extrafamilial female victims had a recidivism rate of 18% and those who had extrafamilial male victims recidivated at a rate of 35%. This same study found a recidivism rate for incest offenders to be approximately 9% (Quinsey, Rice, and Harris, 1995).

It is noteworthy that recidivism rates for sex offenders are lower than for the general criminal population. For example, one study of 108,580 non-sex criminals released from prisons in 11 states in 1983 found that nearly 63% were rearrested for a non-sexual felony or serious misdemeanor within three years of their release from incarceration; 47% were reconvicted; and 41% were ultimately returned to prison or jail (Bureau of Justice Statistics).

It is important to note that not all sex crimes are solved or result in arrest and only a fraction of sex offenses are reported to police. The reliance on measures of recidivism as reflected through official criminal justice system data (i.e., rearrest or reconviction rates) obviously omits offenses that are not cleared through an arrest (and thereby cannot be attributed to any individual offender) or those that are never reported to the police. For a variety of reasons, many victims of sexual assault are reluctant to invoke the criminal justice process and do not report their victimization to the police. For these reasons, relying on rearrest and reconviction data underestimates actual reoffense numbers.

Now there's a map of sex offenders?

Oh, by the way, what IS a "sex offender"?

Is it someone who molests a child? Or does "sex offender" also include a drunk who was "caught" urinating behind a tree? A peeping tom? A foreigner who was entrapped by an internet plea from a "beautiful young girl" (a cop) to help save her from her "abusive stepfather"? How about the 17-year-old girl and boy having sexual relations and then the boy turns 18, and now he is not encouraged by the school, he is now a rapist, subject to life in prison?

Would any of the social justice authorities care to define what the hell they are talking about, or are they just more interested in accumulating more power and bigger salaries for themselves by defining a larger and larger slice of society as "criminal deviants" and claiming they are incurable, so they must be supervised or imprisoned for life.

Yes, we should set up concentration camps for all of these people. Send them away for life, and if they are killed by accident, who cares.

Why don't the cops and social justice system have a map that shows where all the murderers and other violent offenders live?

I think I would be much more interested in who has been convicted for violent offenses like assault and battery, a danger to everybody, than in a neighbor who was stupid enough to be entrapped by some clever cop into "meeting" an "underage girl." or a neighbor who got too friendly with a seductive trickster.

For these violent thugs, the government claims that the rest of society is not mature enough to be able to handle any information about criminals, who they are, where they live, what crimes they have committed. These violent thugs have their "privacy" rights. And Dems want a federal law to grant the convicted felons the right to vote. (Why do convicted felons overwhelmingly vote Democratic, now that's a question that will never be posed in this "news"paper.)

Another crock from city hall.

Are you feeling safer, now that you know where these "sex offenders" are? I wouldn't relax - maybe your group will be the next target in the ever-growing witch-hunt. Times are changing rapidly.

USA - 3 million in prison, more than Russia and China and India combined.

I have known Daren for quite a long time. My biggest problem with this is that he was always a guy that the girls wanted to be with. He never had a problem with this, yet he decides to woo a much younger girl, a girl of an age at which it is illegal and pretty gross to mess with. Seems to me like there is more going on in his head then some of you think.

I would like to know what you would do if you received a message on your e-mail requesting help from a person who was being abused or beaten by her evil stepfather.

She wants you to help her and she asks you to meet her, and then she will be saved. It is the natural human impulse to want to help our fellow human beings.

I don't fault any male who falls for this seductive trap. It works on two levels. First, males like females, and are attracted to them. Second, good human beings want to help other human beings.

What a low-life scum it is that sets such a trap, to make a lifetime in prison for a person who has never committed a crime, and never will, because he will be locked up forever for the ATTEMPT, not the commission of a "crime." And in this foreigner's home country, it most likely is NOT a crime to meet with, date and have sex with people who are under 18.

And why are local police departments spending millions of dollars setting up these internet sex traps? Mostly they lure overseas foreigners to America so they can be caught and imprisoned. First this is the creation of crime, and the local taxpayers now have to pay $50,000 a year for prison expense for each newly-created immigrant "criminal." Second, since when are we taxpayers supposed to pay for the enforcement of laws world-wide? I am already taxed to death, and the police are only supposed to stop wrongful behavior in their own jurisdiction, not create wrongful behavior in all other jurisdictions.

I hope the US is not so arrogant (whoops, I mean respectful of diversity) that they will complain when North Korea and Iran enforce their own peculiar laws on visiting Americans.

If you have anything whatsoever to say that is not based on a knee-jerk emotional response ("Let's kill all the witches!") then I would be happy to tear it to logical shreds.

Like I said, maybe your group, whatever that is, may be next on the witch hunt list.

Here's how the police entrap well-meaning males by spamming out thousands of e-mails:

"Hello (name):

Oh, I am living with my mean stepfather. He beats me. I need help. Can you please come meet me?

Karen"

I have even heard of a priest who fell for this dirtbag's trick. He was sincerely trying to help the "girl." They arrested him, but let him go. I guess there weren't enough witch-hunters in that town.

fairbro (anonymous) says...

Murder, and robbery were illegal 5000 years ago and are just as illegal today.

But sex with minors was legal 5000 years ago and legal 50 years ago. There were no “minors” 50 years ago, this was a term invented along with the term “teen-ager” to separate adults from children, so sociologist and psychs could declare themselves experts in upbringing and usurp the authority of the adults in the family structure. So these are not “children” these minors, they were called adults 50 years ago. But it makes for more emotional impact (witch-hunt atmosphere) to call them “children.”

But today sex with a 16-year-old is a monstrous crime. That is, the girl can say she consents to sex, then later on, can she didn't say it was okay, then the guy is charged with rape, and he is guilty until he can prove his innocence.

I saw the young girl call the police and accuse her mother of abusive behavior. The mother was promptly jailed, no questions asked. After they released her a few days later (she had done nothing) she has to go back and live with this daughter-from-Hell. I couldn't abide that. There IS NO innocent American girl today. The internet ended that,. Period. End of story. Girls, or anyone, can know anything they want to know, as soon as they can read and type on a keyboard. This was never possible until the 1990's.

I suppose a brain-dead society, a society which would elect Barack Obama, a society which tolerates newspapers which despise the majority of their readership, TV news which enturbulates their viewership, can not accept that people really should be treated equally; there must be villains and good people. And those villains are: Men!

There is more than one case of an angry father waiting until his 17-year-old-daughter's boyfriend turns 18, then having the DA charge him with rape. A "crime" that was not a crime the previous day. But now the 18-year-old boyfriend is looking at 20 years in prison.

50 years ago, homosexuality was a crime. Today it is celebrated.

What is perverse today is tomorrow's latest fad. Today's acceptable behavior becomes tomorrow's sin.

This just in – homosexuality punishable by death by stoning in India. Gee, wouldn't it be nice if we could be a little more MODERATE in our views about sex, and not, in America, rush to put MEN in jail, just because in this time, in this place, we think we have found the correct solution to the dynamics of sex? Freud was a cocaine addict, and his idiotic theories of sex are still in vogue, funded by the government, through their justice system. Yet the media ignores the blatant injustices against women in Moslem countries.

I am certainly not condoning anything that is bad, but I hate people who don't realize the definition of “bad” has changed RADICALLY in just a couple of decades. If men don't start defending their rights, they will soon have none. Look at the IMBRA law, snuck through the congress at 03:00 with no public debate.

Let me clarify. We have 2 issues here and you are co-mingling them. I agree the children need to be protected. We have laws in place and we may or may not agree with how they are administered. We may or may not agree with the punishments given out, but this is our judicial system at the present moment. Better than most places in the world.

I did not say the vultures are the ones attempting to harm the kids, nor are they turning their heads. They just seem to enjoy talking, whether they know the facts or not, or considering the harm gossip can bring. Guess it makes good coffee shop talk

He's lost his career and reputation. He's on probation. The judge knows details we don't and didn't sentence him any more harshly so maybe it wasn't as bad an incident as our imaginations may paint it.
