A near-tragedy and a heroic act has led to special news coverage for one local family.
On August 11, 3-year-old Kager Ochs was swimming at the Lyndon pool with family members when he nearly drowned in a section of the pool that was too deep for him.
Tragedy was narrowly avoided when Kager was spotted at the bottom of the pool by 13-year-old Ethan Davis-Criqui of Melvern. Thinking and acting quickly, Ethan pulled Kager from the bottom of the pool and started yelling for the lifeguard, who then took over by administering CPR to the stricken youngster.
Kager was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Burlington, where he made a full recovery.
Ethan’s act of heroism earned him an interview with WIBW’s Ralph Hipp, who highlights such deeds in a segment called “Good Kids.” The segment, in which Hipp interviewed Ethan, Kager and Kager’s mother, Amy Ochs aired on the Topeka station in late August.
