Admire will be bustling with activity Saturday with its annual fall festival with something for the whole family.
Admire’s Fall Festival will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and is packed with activities. The festival, which is sponsored by Admire Community PRIDE, opens up with Thad Beach, a full-time professional musician, teaching artist and songwriter.
“Beach says he ‘likes to get crazy ideas and turn them into songs,’” according to a press release by Ann Birney of Admire. “He believes people need a chance to laugh more and recharge their spirit.”
Beginning 9 a.m., Beach will conduct three 30-minute workshops that will teach participants to play along on homemade instruments from his “Band in a Bucket.” A community family concert will follow at 11 a.m. The concert also will serve as the debut of the song Admire Grade School students wrote and will feature student performers on “Band in a Bucket” instruments.
A professional wrestling show by Kansas professional wrestlers will be presented by Whiplash Wrestling. They will compete in the school gym from 1 to 4 p.m.
Other events during the day include food, vendors, horseshoe and talent contests, silent auction, kiddie carnival, identi-kid, educational displays and a street dance. The silent auction will include bicycles, a barbecue grill, a smoker and Chiefs tickets with parking.
The talent show will begin at 6 p.m. with no registrations taken after 5 p.m. There are three age divisions: 17 and under, 18 and up and professional. All talents appropriate for a family show are welcome. Contestants needing music are to bring a CD. Vocal contestants cannot sing with a vocal recording — recordings must be instrumental only. The entry "fee" is a non-perishable food item for the Admire Food Bank. There will be a cash prize. Registration information for the talent show may be had by calling Stacy Ruggiero at (620) 343-5379.
Admire is in north Lyon County, 18 minutes north of Emporia on Highway 99.
