In addition to car repair and towing services, Williams Automotive, 3105 W. Sixth Ave., now offers 24-hour Hertz car rentals.
The business previously offered car rentals after hours, but when the Hertz office in Emporia closed, owner Rex Williams expanded the offerings to regular business hours as well.
“It’s just a convenience for our customers, and we have a lot of demand for cars after hours,” Williams said. “If somebody needs a car, whether it be a wreck or a car breaking down or whatever at 3 in the morning, then we can come in and rent them a car.”
The business currently has two Toyotas available, both of which are rented out.
“It works on supply and demand,” Williams said, adding that he plans to acquire more cars depending on demand.
By offering rentals, Williams said he is not trying to compete with Enterprise Rent-A-Car; he simply is filling a niche.
“We added the rentals basically for the late-night demand and to add another level of convenience for our customers,” he said. “The Enterprise folks are very good folks and run a good program. We’re just trying to fill a demand that’s out of the ordinary.”
There are no plans to open a separate office for car rentals.
