Chase County

The Chase County Leader-News reported that Tim Hickok will discuss prairie flora and fauna and his passion for the pursuit of prairie chickens with trained raptors in a Prairie Talk at Pioneer Bluffs at 2 p.m. Sept. 19. Hickok and his hunting partner, Zero, a peregrine falcon, appeared with David Letterman and Jack Hanna on the “Late Show with David Letterman” in May 2008.

Chase County

An open house is scheduled for Friday at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve for the public to ask questions or comment on the bison reintroduction environmental analysis and management plan. The open house will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the preserve’s ranch headquarters (in the stone barn) located off Highway 177 two miles north of Strong City.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that outpatient services accounted for half of the July revenue for Coffey Health System, which posted nearly a $26,000 net profit in July. The CHS Board of Trustees learned during it’s Aug. 17 meeting that CHS has an $85,000 net revenue for the year, nearly $530,000 ahead of last year.

Neurology and ENT services added substantially to the outpatient clinic visits in July and outpatient surgeries increased 16 percent from the prior month.
