Poker ride supports Foundation

Friday, September 11, 2009

Put your poker face on and get ready to enjoy a scenic ride. The Flint Hills Technical College Foundation will be host for the second annual Run for the Money poker run Oct. 10.

The poker run is underwritten by Vektek. Troy Estes, president of Vektek, Inc., is an FHTC Foundation board member and believes in the value of technical education.

“We want to spend time and effort to support the FHTC Foundation because we think their work is invaluable,” Estes said. “Through scholarship dollars, the Foundation gives students an opportunity to learn a trade and earn good wages at a faster pace. Vektek hires and supports many of the graduates of Flint Hills Technical College.”

The poker run will start and finish at FHTC with stops at Americus Main Street Park, Branine Motors in Osage City, Pride Park in Melvern and Hartford Main Street. Participants will try to finish with the best poker hand after the completion of the run.

Motorcycles and classic and antique cars are welcome to join in the fun to raise money to support the mission of the FHTC Foundation — assisting students through scholarships and to support the mission of the college by enhancing educational opportunities that lead to employment and continuous learning.

“We’re excited to be doing the 2nd annual Run for the Money,” said Mike Crouch, executive director of advancement for the FHTC Foundation. “It is a great way to involve the community and support the students at Flint Hills Technical College.

A $20 registration fee includes a T-shirt, one poker hand, an entry in the 50-50 cash drawing and door prizes. Additional passengers cost $10 and extra poker hands cost $5. There will be a lot of opportunities to win, including cash prizes awarded for the top three poker hands, door prizes for the participants and a 50-50 cash drawing.

Sponsorships are available as well for individuals and businesses. Sponsors will be identified on the back of the “Run for the Money” T-shirts.

Pre-registration is encouraged by Sept. 25 to receive a free T-shirt. Registration forms and additional information are available at www.fhtc.edu and click on the Run for the Money logo. Registration forms can also be picked up at FHTC, 3301 W. 18th Ave., or at Vektek, 1334 E. Sixth Ave. Questions can be directed to Mike Crouch at 341-1313.
