Officials ready to give flu vaccines

Friday, September 11, 2009

The Lyon County Health Department will offer seasonal flu vaccinations on a walk-in basis beginning Monday.

According to a press release from the Lyon County Health Department, 420 W. 15th Ave., walk-in flu shots can be had between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The vaccine is for seasonal flu only. The cost of the vaccine is $20.

A drive-through vaccination clinic for seasonal flu will be on Oct. 6 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

The H1N1 vaccine is expected to be available to priority groups in October.

To help prevent flu individuals should:

• Cough or sneeze into the bend of their arm or use a tissue, which should be properly disposed of.

• Wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer which contains 60 to 90 percent water.

• Stay home when sick until 24 hours after fever has passed without fever reducing medication.

I think you mean 60-90% ALCOHOL not water for the hand sanitizer. The bottle on my desk says 62% ethyl alcohol.

On that note, don't let little kids lick their hands after using it, they can become very sick.
