Lyon County Democrats

The Lyon County Democrats will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Best Western Regency Gardens restaurant to hear updates from the local and state party. Commissioner Scott Briggs will be available to answer questions about recent county business.

Concert at the Granada

Acoustic Bluegrass Musician Nick Charles will play live at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Granada Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $12. Tickets can be purchased at the Emporia Granada Theatre, The Granada Coffee Company and The Sweet Granada. Charles has been a performing and touring acoustic musician for more than 25 years on the Australian and internal acoustic music scene and averages more than 200 shows a year from Perth to Sydney and L.A. to Kansas City. The Prairie Canaries, a folk duo, also will play.

Tea party

The Coffey County TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Team will be host for a Taxpayers Protest Party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Burlington at 314 N. Fourth St. (corner of Fourth and Juniatta streets). The public is encouraged to attend.

Free hot dogs, juice and Constitution pocket booklets will be available to everyone. The event is intended to provide area residents with an opportunity to talk to other citizens and to peacefully protest against government overreaching and overspending, stated the news release.

The party is expected to be a non-partisan family-friendly event. Any signs to be displayed must be civil and in good taste. The TEA Party Team meets at 6 p.m. the third Monday of every month in the basement of the Coffey County Courthouse. For more information, call (620) 364-8490.
