Emporia High dominated both lines of scrimmage against the rebuilding Class 4A State champions, rushing for 290 yards and forcing six turnovers in a 28-6 victory over Hayden Friday night at Welch Stadium.
Mark Kolmer ran for 115 yards in 28 carries for EHS, and quarterback Brandon Gentz ran for touchdowns of 37, 1 and 17 yards. The Spartans held the Wildcats to 254 yards of total offense, recovered four Hayden fumbles and grabbed two interceptions. Emporia is now 2-0 on the year. It's the Spartans' first victory over Hayden since 1996.
