Shooting victim critical

Thursday, September 10, 2009

The man shot around at Rodeway Inn and Suites, 3181 W. Highway 50, Tuesday evening has been identified as Omar Gerardo Flores, 25, according to the Emporia Police Department.

Flores is listed in critical condition at the University of Kansas Hospital, Lt. Ed Owens of the Emporia Police Department said Wednesday afternoon.

According to a press release by the Emporia Police Department, officers responded at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday to the motel after receiving a report of shots fired and someone injured. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old male subject in a vehicle who had been shot multiple times,” Owens said in an earlier press release.

Owens said in a press release that the shooting was deliberate and not random.

“The shooting subject is known to police,” Owens said. “Investigators are working on developing the motive for the shooting at this time.”

“Investigators are working on developing the motive for the shooting at this time.”

This is just something I overheard standing in line at Wal-Mart, so I don't know if it is fact or not, but the people checking out behind me were saying this guy sold someone a pound of lawnmower clippings, and it finally caught up to him. If this is really what happened, that's really too bad. One guy in critical condition and another going to prison. Over grass clippings.

If you get the coldhardtruth from the line at Walmart you should get a better source.

It is extremely irresponsible for the media to post the names and locations of violent crimes victims. Not only does it place the victim at continued risk, but also the health care providers who are trying to save them. Hospitals have security measures in place for a reason and if you (the media) somehow manage to skirt those and receive valued information, you need to take responsiblity yourself and not post this information.

Henry...I sincerely hope you're kidding. If you know the victim well enough to send flowers, then you would probably know where they are anyway.
