Police look into shooting

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

The identity of a shooting victim is being withheld following the incident Tuesday night at the Rodeway Inn and Suites, 3181 W. Highway 50.

According to a press release by the Emporia Police Department, Emporia police officers responded at 8:10 p.m. to the motel after receiving a report of shots fired and someone injured. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old male subject in a vehicle who had been shot multiple times,” according to Lt. Ed Owens of the Emporia Police Department.

The victim was taken to Newman Regional Health.

Owens said in a press release that the shooting was deliberate and not random.

“The shooting subject is known to police,” Owens said. “Investigators are working on developing the motive for the shooting at this time.”

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.

Based on what KVOE reported, I don't think the police or the hospital are releasing whether the guy is still alive.

Might be that the EPD is playing its card close to the vest and doesn't want this information out there. Not for any sinister reason, it simply makes the investigation easier if not everyone knows everything. If you want to know, go find the desk clerk from the motel, I am sure they know something.
