Deep thoughts

HEADLINES OF weekend paper — City’s salary scale extensive.

You got that right.

A few questions:

• Animal Control Officer — $25 to $36,000

• Animal Shelter Manager — $30 to $42,000

• Animal Collecton Manager — $33 to $46,000

That’s a lot of spending for loose cats and dogs!

And then (non-specified jobs) $58 to $88,000 a year? Where do I apply?

Second — Main Street wants us to spend $20 apiece on Tuesday to support downtown businesses. Emporians, why don’t we spend $20 on Tuesday at your local supermarket and fill the food pantry.

Yeah, Clint, those are some real "deep" thoughts you have there...

"Shallow" might have been better term to use for your title. Animal control is a much needed service. Also, you must have a small pantry, because $20 worth of food sure wouldn’t “fill” mine. (well…maybe at Walmart’s amazingly low prices…LOL)

Considering the number of strays still roaming Emporia, it does seem like a high salary. Of course, if the shelter was open decent hours, maybe they could adopt some pets out. For the money they pay the shelter manager, I would be open a weekend day and eveings.

$20 x 2000 Emporians would fill a food pantry many times over, regardless of how little $20 buys, even at Walmart.

Animal Control Officer — $25 to $36,000

• Animal Shelter Manager — $30 to $42,000

• Animal Collecton Manager — $33 to $46,000

$88,000 minimum, $124,000 maximum one could anticipate three control officers, one as manager of all operations, and having the shelter open for extended hours.

Observer,
Oooooohhhhhh.... THIS pantry:

My mistake. That would be a good use o’ $20 apiece.

$20.00 = alittle more than 3packs of smokes.

Hi Steve and 'enry;

Yep just a bit more than one pack of smokes, and 20 multiplied many times makes a difference for those without a $20 in their pocket.

Take the cost of a dinner for two at Montana Mikes, Carlos O'Kelleys, buy a ready to bake pizza to take home, and ear-mark the rest for the food pantry, and you have made a major difference, when multiplied 10 or 20 fold.

Just FYI:

The animal shelter is open every day, including weekends.

More hours are put in besides the open hours just in caring for the often full-to-capacity shelter. Many, many, more.

Animals available for adoption can be found at petfinder.com even if the shelter is closed.

Animal Collection Manager refers to the zoo and not Animal Control Services. It has nothing to do with "loose cats and dogs."
