Completes basic
Kyle W. Peres of Emporia, the son of Allan Peres of Emporia and Sheri Peres of Granola completed basic training at Fort Jackson, N.C., on June 19, 2009, with the honor of the Forty Rounds Medal.
Joining Peres at the ceremony were his father and sister, Kacy of Emporia and his aunts, Alma Worrel of Emporia and Teri Peres of Nortonville. Peres, who is enlisted in the Army, is stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga., where he is studying satellite communications.
Receives doctorate
Marshall I. Sundberg received a doctorate in geological sciences from Brown University on May 24. While studying at Brown, he received a Brown University Fellowship, Sigma Xi Outstanding Research award and AGU Best Student Paper Award. He is doing post-doctoral work in the laboratory of David Kolstadt at the University of Minnesota. Sundberg is the son of Marshall and Sara Sundberg of Emporia.
