Emporia High's girls tennis team won two out of 28 matches Saturday as the Spartans opened their season at the Salina Central Mustang Duels.
Noelle Waters, playing at No. 3 singles, scored the Spartans' first victory, defeating Salina South's Emily Jones 8-3. Later, in the Spartans' series of face-offs against Arkansas City, EHS' No. 3 doubles team of Brooke Gutierrez and Alice Tunks-Jones beat Taylor Crow and Laci Hadorn 8-6. The Spartans went 1-6 against both Salina South and Ark City and went 0-7 against Salina Central and St. Thomas Aquinas.
