The Emporia Gazette
Emporian Steve Harmon e-mailed from Afghanistan after an article ran Aug. 28 announcing a drive by Emporia Main Street to collect items for care packages to Harmon and his fellow soldiers.
Harmon wrote to Main Street:
“Saw a rather humbling care package article in the Gazette. If anyone asks about care package items, please let them know that I share these items with our team not just for me. Also we have tons of dental/hygiene bathroom supplies and I don’t want those to go to waste.”
Harmon also included a list of items for the package, things he said, the “guys really like.” They are:
• Any magazines, newspapers, reminders of Kansas
• DVDs of taped TV (anything — I have seen a lot of people are using their TIVOs to record shows and just sending DVDs)
• Snacks, junk food, anything like that is hard to get around here
• Blank CDs — the most precious commodity on post right now
• Paper: Believe it or not, copy paper is really hard to find here.
Items may be taken to the Main Street office, 12 E. Fifth Ave., or Town Crier bookstore, 716 Commercial St. For information, call Becky Smith at Town Crier, 343-9649.
