The Sock Hop will feature a buffet lunch along with music, games, prizes and “fun from the 1950s and 1960s,” stated the news release. Dress from these time periods is encouraged.

The Emporia Red Hatters is a chartered group of the Red Hat Society, an organization especially for women 50 and over. Members like to wear purple outfits and red hats. Women under 50 wear lavender outfits and pink hats. The sole purpose of the group is to have fun and enjoy life. There are no dues and no rules.

The Emporia group will celebrate its fifth birthday at the event. Organized in the summer of 2004, the Emporia Red Hatters consists of six smaller groups that meet at various times. Each group has a Queen who coordinates activities and serves on the Queens Council. Linda Johnson is the Queen Baguette and is chairman of the Queens Council. A monthly newsletter and e-mails help keep all members informed. New members are welcome at any time. For more information, call Johnson at 343-6618.
