Emporia State senior Arica Shepard was named the MIAA hitter of the week on Tuesday for her performance at the UNO Showcase over the weekend in Omaha, Neb.
Shepard had 55 kills and a .355 hitting percentage in the Hornets’ four wins at the Showcase. She also had 41 digs, four blocks and a service ace.
Shepard started her season with three double-doubles in four matches, finishing with 13 kills and 12 digs against North Alabama, 13 kills and 10 digs against Dallas Baptist and 16 kills and 10 digs in the tournament finale against Minnesota State-Mankato.
She just missed a fourth double-double against Eastern New Mexico, tallying 13 kills and nine digs.
The Hornets are 4-0 and have yet to drop a game in their first four matches. On Friday, they travel to Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas, for another four-match tournament.
