What a wonderful salsa competition we had last week.
There were eight unique entries, and about 70 of you came, tasted and voted for your favorite. Here’s what was presented and who made it:
• Roy Stanton, mild tomato salsa
• Steve Graham, tomatillo-shallot salsa
• Wanda Myers, mild chunky salsa
• Tracey Graham, heirloom tomato salsa, Ranchero style
• Nathan Sexton, smooth salsa
• Darlena Sexton, peppery salsa
• Kevin Ogle, classic garden salsa
• Jason Brinkman, cilantro and serrano salsa
It was Jason Brinkman’s salsa that took the prize. In addition to fame, Jason got a little fortune in the form of a Best Choice recyclable shopping bag full of useful things for the salsa chef, courtesy of Price Chopper and the Country Marts. Yay.
Jason said, “I think I got the recipe from some old instruction manual from some antique, 1970s era hand-crank food processor (I’m a kitchen gadget kind-of-guy). Of course, as any foodie will do, the recipe has been modified over time and is simply the basis for whatever ingredients are lying around this time of summer. I’d call it a ‘Classic Garden Salsa.’”
Congratulations to Jason.
