In the clubhouse at Emporia Municipal Golf Course after the end of Tuesday’s Emporia Invitational, one of Rick Eckert’s Emporia High golfers told the coach, “See you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow for practice,” Eckert responded — and then added somewhat ominously, “hours of it.”
That pretty well sums up what Eckert thought of the Spartans’ team performance at their second tournament of the year and first home tourney. Emporia shot a 237 in the nine-hole tournament to finish fifth out of seven teams. Freshman Amber Mechtley was a bright spot, earning a medal; her five senior teammates, on the other hand, had rough days on the course.
