Hunter safety course
A hunter safety course, including traditional classwork, gun safety and shooting, will be held next weekend at Camp Alexander.
Roger Carson, instructor, said the class on Saturday will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Youthful hunters must be certified before they can purchase a hunting license at the age of 16, Carson said.

Pittsburg recruiting students
A Pittsburg State University admissions counselor, Terra Higgins, will visit Emporia High School students at 10 a.m. Thursday at EHS to talk to them about beginning their college careers at Pittsburg, according to a news release about the event.
She will answer questions about Pitt State and about college in general. The students will also receive a view book about the university. For more information, call the Office of Admission at (800) 854-7488 or go to www.pittstate.edu on the Internet.
Business After Hours
The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau will be host for a Business Before Hours from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 5) at 702 Prairie St. The event is sponsored by Groh Printing Company, Inc., and TFI Family Services.
Reservations are required to attend this event and can be made by calling 342-1600 or completed on-line in the Community Calendar section of the Chamber web site at www.emporiakschamber.org. The reservation deadline is Tuesday (Nov. 3).
Non-member businesses interested in joining the Chamber of Commerce are invited to attend. A $5 donation for members and their guests, and an $8 donation for non-members will be accepted at the door.
