The Emporia State soccer team fell to Missouri Western 3-0 on Thursday afternoon on the marshy terrain of the ESU Pitch.
“It’s definitely not the kind of (conditions) you want to play in, but you have to do what you have to do,” senior forward Tina Commons said. “You can’t think, ‘Oh it’s raining, run away,’ but it’s just something that’s more fun because you never know what the ball is going to do. It can either go in ... or against your favor.”
ESU (1-14-1, 1-11-1 MIAA) had seemed to play more effectively under conditions such as were present on Thursday, but coach Jim Schneiderhahn observed that wasn’t the case.
“We’ve played really well in adverse weather this year,” he said. “So we thought that we were going to have a little bit of the advantage in the muck, but it didn’t turn out that way.”
