Sad news

We were gone on an extended trip and when I had time to catch up on my newspaper reading I was sad to see that Dryer’s was closing.
Charlie, the girls and their staff seem like family to us. As our girls were growing up we always went to Dryer’s to get school shoes, which was an exciting time for them. When they were in high school sports we went to Dryer’s to get their tennis shoes. When they went to the prom we bought the dresses first then went to Dryer’s for the shoes.
Whenever our daughters were coming for a weekend or holiday most times they would make a trip into Emporia “to see what Dryer’s had on sale.” That was always on their list to do. They bought shoes for their children.
My brother-in-law Giles Hartenbower worked for Charlie at one time. He would buy his mother, Leone Hartenbower, pretty shoes.
So Dryer’s has served four generations of Hartenbowers and we will miss them.
