Coffey County
The Coffey County Republican reported that the first H1N1 vaccine was received in the county last week. The first doses are for children ages 2 to 9 and health care workers with direct patient contact.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that Coffey County Economic Development Director Jon Hotaling and Burlington City Council member Chuck Coker recently requested Coffey County commissioners consider a grant to assist with a Burlington economic development project.
The grant would help the city build the infrastructure at Commerce Park by running water, sewer, gas, electric and telephone services for the Crow-Moddie Development. The proposal would have the county’s economic development provide up to $25,000 of improvements to be paid from the Economic Development Special Expenditures Fund.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that state budget cuts and a slight decrease in enrollment has resulted in Burlington USD 244 receiving nearly $500,000 less to fund its $16 million budget for the 2009-10 school year. The headcount this year was four students less than the previous year. After adjusting the FTE for transportation, low enrollment correlation and special education, the district’s total FTE was 14.8 students less than last year.
