Belated birthday
Shirley Poff celebrated her 64th birthday anniversary on Friday. Her family requests a card shower for her, with cards to be sent to 1634 Road M-5, Emporia KS 66801.
Special meeting
The City of Americus will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall to award a contract on sanitary sewer improvements, engineers project 09-1208E.
Special sewing
The Flint Hills Sewing Guild is having a “Spooky Sewing Day,” beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 31 at the Extension meeting room, 2632 W. Highway 50. They will make fabric drawstring bags for the overseas troops or participants can bring their sewing projects to complete. The day is for anyone interested in helping with this project and a special invitation to the 4-H girls in the Clothing Project. Those participating are to bring their portable sewing machines and sewing notions. Fabric will be available for the bags. For more information, call 342-4091.
Nut, fruit sale
The Newman Regional Health Auxiliary is having a sale of Mountain Man Nut and Fruit Co. nuts, dried fruits, trail mixes and candies, along with seasonal items for the holidays, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the hospital, “C” entrance. There also will be candies and snacks with low fat, low sugar, low carbohydrates and no sugar. The company is in Parker, Colo., and has been in business for more than 30 years. Proceeds will support the NRHA Auxiliary in their on-going efforts to provide scholarship to students in the healthcare field.
Salvation Army applications
The Salvation Army, 327 Constitution St., will take applications for Christmas assistance from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Nov. 10-12, 17-19 and 24. Applicants will need to bring: Picture identification of the applicant and printout from SRS if receiving food stamps; or, picture identification of applicant, Social Security cards for every person in the household, proof of all income including employment (most current two paycheck stubs, Social Security, unemployment, etc.) and proof of Lyon County residence.
