Award

The 1874 Stonehouse of Cottonwood Falls was selected as Best in the Midwest in the annual Best of BedandBreakfast.com Awards for 2009-2010. The BestofBedandBreakfast.com Awards are based upon a qualitative and quantitative review of the nearly 100,000 independent reviews submitted to BedandBreakfast.com, the leading online B&B directory and reservation network worldwide, stated the news release.

Liquor store

Nikki Roberts, a longtime resident of Emporia, has announced she is the “proud owner” of Nik of Time Liquor & Wine, 1517 E. Sixth Ave., and is “looking forward to serving Emporia and the neighboring communities.” She mentions the business has a large, easy access parking lot with a circle drive, especially “hassle-free for those towing a trailer behind them,” and three convenient entrances.

The Emporia “Main Street Mingle” is featuring Flint Hills Laser Expressions, 912 Commercial St. from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with food, fun and a laser demonstration. Library job

Earl Givens Jr. of Emporia has joined the State Library of Kansas as the library technology assistant. Givens will provide technical support to library services such as Audiobooks, music and more, the State Library website, statewide databases, the Kansas Library Card, HomeworkKansas and Web Junction, stated the news release.

Givens is in his final year of the master’s in library science program at the School of Library and Information Management (SLIM) at Emporia State University. He will graduate in 2010. He has a bachelor’s degree from ESU in American history and museum studies with a second field of study in anthropology. He is an ordained minister and has been an assistant pastor at the Church of the New Covenant in Emporia for two years.
