Spooky week planned at the Granada

Friday, October 23, 2009

It will be a spook-tacular week at the Emporia Granada Theatre next week as Halloween approaches.

The week is filled with movies and an open house to invite people to check the restored theatre out. Jessica Buchholz, executive director of the Emporia Granada, said the Granada will show two movies next week: “The Shining” and “Twilight.”

“The Shining” will show at 7 p.m. Wednesday with doors opening at 6 p.m. “Twilight” will show at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 with doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets to both shows are $4.

“Patrons who have purchased a homecoming button can bring their button to “The Shining” and receive a small popcorn,” Buchholz said. “We had several requests to show this film around Halloween and I think it fits perfect with this year’s homecoming theme.”

Wheat State Pizza, movie sponsor, will provide a free slice of pizza to the first 200 ticket holders to arrive at Twilight.

“This is one of the last opportunities that ‘Twilight’ fans will be able to see the movie on the big screen due to screening rights being put on hold after the first of November,” Buchholz said.

The Granada will have an open house from 9 to 11 a.m. on Halloween.

“This will allow people to come in and look around before or after the Homecoming parade,” Buchholz said. “We will be showing free cartoons so bring the whole family down!”
