Officials at Project Tomorrow anticipate that more than 300,000 online surveys about education will be completed during Speak Up 2009, according to a news release from the group. Project Tomorrow is a national nonprofit organization involved in improving education to ensure that students are prepared to function well in the world, according to information from the group.
“The Speak Up data represents the largest collection of authentic, unfiltered stakeholder input on education, technology, 21st-century skills, schools of the future and science instruction,” a Project Tomorrow news release stated.
Julie Evans, chief executive officer of Project Tomorrow, said that the survey gives students, parents and staff to give their opinions about the future of education, local and national policies, and how teaching could be improved.
In addition, schools and districts that participate will have free online access to their own data that can be compared with national benchmarks.
“For the first time, the survey will ask students about their interest in teaching careers and will include pre-service teachers to get a sense of how the next generation of teachers may differ (or reflect) the opinions of current educators,” a Speak Up news release stated.
The Speak up surveys are open to each public and private school and district in the United States, as well as at American schools on military bases, and other involved schools worldwide.
The survey is open through Dec. 19 at http://www.tomorrow.org/speakup/
