Kansas Highway Patrol troopers laid down spike strips late Wednesday morning to stop a car they had pursued about 45 miles north on the Kansas Turnpike. KHP Lt. Joe Bott said Wednesday afternoon that a trooper had attempted to stop the vehicle about nine miles south of the Emporia interchange.
“He ended up in pursuit of it from about Milepost 116 to where they wrecked about Milepost 162, I believe,” Bott said.
A check of the vehicle’s tag showed that it had been stolen in Dodge City. The chase ended when the car, traveling around 100 miles per hour, ran across the spike strips, spun several times and stopped. Bott said that the driver, who was not yet identified, was not injured. A report on circumstances of the incident was not available at press time.
A KTA spokesperson said this morning that the people in the car were juveniles.
The Patrol requested assistance from Lyon County Sheriff’s department, according to the sheriff’s log.
The log noted that the driver had been taken to the Osage County Jail.
