Small-town feel with big-city services is what Emporia’s newest bank, Marion National Bank, prides itself in offering.
The bank opened at 1448 Industrial Road on Sept. 28, said Chad Buchholz, vice-president. The bank originally started in Marion and was charted in 1905, Buchholz said.
“We’ve been serving the Marion community since then,” he said. “We’ve just now moved into the Emporia market.”
The bank owners saw Emporia as an opportunity, Buchholz said.
“They thought it would be a great opportunity for a smaller bank to come in,” he added.
The Emporia branch has seven employees and offers a wide range of banking services including checking accounts, savings accounts, commercial loans, real estate loans, online banking, online bill paying and safe deposit boxes.
Jackie Ellis, branch supervisor, said the bank prides itself in many things.
“We pride ourselves in personal services and it’s very convenient,” Ellis said.
Buchholz agreed.
“We have small-town customer service but offer large bank products,” he said. “We have products of a larger company.”
Buchholz said it’s the small-town feel that sets the bank apart.
“The personal touch,” he said. “We don’t know customers by a number we just know them by their name.”
All the employees of the Emporia branch either have had Emporia ties in the past or live in Emporia now.
“We’re all very happy to be a part of the Emporia community,” Buchholz said. “We have our stakes in Emporia and that’s where we plan to stay.”
The bank will have an open house and grand opening celebration starting at 11 a.m. Friday with a ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. The open house will continue until 4 p.m. There will be drawings for prizes that include a flat-screen television, a GPS device and basketball tickets. The bank also is promoting its Charter Club, which will extend special benefits to the first 200 people who open a checking account at the bank.

... Get ready Marion... when those boys from Topeka open a Capitol Federal Savings branch in Marion, you'll be preaching "support your hometown business."
