Emporia State’s Adam McGovern and Katie Mona swept the MIAA Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday.
McGovern ran a 15:29.70 in the 5K to place fifth at the Ollie Isom Invitational in El Dorado on Friday. The sophomore led ESU to second place in the team standings behind Garden City CC, which is ranked third in the NJCAA National poll.
Mona covered the 4K in 14:33.36 to finish third at the Ollie Isom Invitational behind two NJCAA All-Americans. The sophomore led ESU to its second straight second-place team showing.
ESU’s home course at Jones Park will be the host site for the 2009 MIAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The women’s 6K race begins at 10:30 a.m., with the men scheduled to run at 11:15 a.m. Southwest Baptist’s men and Missouri Southern’s women are the defending MIAA Champions.
