Lebo beats Olpe to take LCL tournament title

Lebo took the Lyon County League volleyball tournament championship on Saturday at White Auditorium, defeating Olpe in the championship match.
The Wolves beat the Eagles 25-18, 25-22 to finish 6-0 for the tournament and take the tourney title for the second straight year. After going 2-0 on Thursday, the Wolves defeated Marais des Cygnes Valley and Hartford in the tournament’s second round of pool play Saturday, beating MdCV 25-15, 25-20 and Hartford 25-22 and 25-17. They went on to face Madison in the semifinals, beating the Bulldogs 25-20, 25-19.
Olpe, which also opened the tourney with two wins on Thursday, beat Flinthills 25-15, 25-17 and Madison 25-11, 25-16 in Saturday’s pool play. The Eagles, who were the top seed at the beginning of the tournament, then defeated SCC in the semifinals 28-26, 25-16 to reach the title match.
Madison dropped the third-place match to Southern Coffey County 12-25, 24-26 to finish in fourth place. Before facing Olpe in their second pool play game and Lebo in the semifinals, the Bulldogs beat Flinthills 25-11, 25-16.
Hartford went 0-2 Saturday, completing a 1-3 tournament for the Jaguars. Before Lebo ended their tournament, the Jags lost to Marais des Cygnes 16-25, 23-25. Kellie Farr had 18 kills for Hartford over the two matches and had three stuff blocks against Lebo. Emily Kirby, Kristen Williams and Amy Thomsen were perfect serving over both games, and Williams had 10 assists against MdCV.
Pairings for this weekend’s volleyball substates will be released Wednesday.
Henderson, Olpe boys notch wins
Olpe’s Katelyn Henderson added another victory to her extensive cross country resume at the Burlington Invitational on Oct. 15, and the Eagle boys finished first as a team at the event.
Henderson ran the course in 15 minutes, 59 seconds, 45 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Chelsea Fullerton of Flinthills. Also placing in the top 10 for Olpe was Taylor Scheidegger, who finished eighth with a run of 17:35. Kelsey Camien finished 13th for Olpe, and right behind her in 14th was Josie Herrick. Katie Barnhart finished 21st for the Eagles, and Katie Krueger finished 33rd. The Olpe girls finished second with 26 team points, 12 behind Flinthills.
On the boys side, three top-10 finishes led Olpe to 15 points and the team title, beating Burlington’s 47. Colby Nuessen ran third with a time of 18:34, Lance Sadler was fourth at 18:38 and Colton Bess was sixth at 18:55. Ethan Hall finished 15th for Olpe, Kyle Barnhart was 22nd and Derek Nuessen was 35th. Andrew Spellman competed in the junior varsity run, finishing 10th, and Logan Fawcett finished 16th.
