An 80-year-old Emporia man is in stable condition this afternoon at Newman Regional Health, after spending the night outside while search dogs and law enforcement officers looked for him.
The man was reported missing from the 100 block of South Washington Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday, according to Emporia Police Sgt. Mark Summey. He apparently had walked away from his home between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Family members searched for him and called police after they were unable to find him.
Police later asked for assistance from the Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association, which arrived around 10:45 p.m. Friday.
"Several officers were out, searched overnight, and with the help of the dogs, he was found at 5:14 a.m.," Summey said. "He was located approximately three blocks from his house in a wooded area."

Wow, so close; yet so far.
Bravo to all involved.
It'd be interesting to know how he's doing. Anybody know?
