Recital

Recital

Flutist Conor Nelson, accompanied by pianist Shinae Kim, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Heath Recital Hall at Beach Music Hall on the Emporia State University campus. Nelson will perform works by C.P.E. Bach, Schumann, Joliet and contemporary composers Maroney, Muczynski and a world premiere of a work by Ronen Shai. Nelson, assistant professor of flute at Oklahoma, has received several awards and was recognized as the “leading flutist of his generation,” stated the news release. Shai also performs as a solo and chamber musician.

Library events

The Emporia Public Library will have the annual Family Pumpkin Carving event from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct 24 in the large meeting room. Participants are to bring their pumpkins for carving jack-o’-lanterns. Carving tools and patterns will be provided, along with spooky music to celebrate the occasion.

Family Night at the Library will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 with the theme, “Halloween Howl.” Family Night is free, with no registration required. Families with children of all ages are welcome to participate in stories, crafts and fun about Halloween.

Fall storytimes at the Emporia Public Library begins with Mother Goose Time at 9:45 a.m. every Monday and Thursday for toddlers to 36 months; Pat-A-Cake Club, infants to 18 months, at 9:15 a.m. every Thursday; and Preschool Storytime, children two to five years, 10:30 a.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

CD release

Local rock band, Radio City, will release their first cd at 9 p.m Oct. 23 at Beer:30. Kansas City based Antennas Up will open the show after a performance by Radio City.

Art exhibit

The Bethany Springer: “Showcase Showdown” exhibit continues through Oct. 31 in the Norman R. Eppink Gallery at Emporia State University King Hall. The closing reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Bruder Theater lobby of King Hall.

The annual ESU Art Department Faculty and Emeritus Faculty exhibition continues through December. The opening reception will from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Bruder Theater lobby.
