Friday Thoughts is a light-hearted commentary.
LAST WEEK, I was driving Grace to swimming lessons, and she heard on the radio that NASA crashed a rocket into the moon to create a dust cloud in hopes of learning whether there was water on the planet.
Grace seemed a little concerned and asked, “Daddy, is the moon broken now?” and “Will the moon still work...?”
I was fairly certain the moon was still going to work, but I let her know that with President Barack Obama fixing the economy, the health-care system and bringing peace to world, if the moon did break, I am sure he would have a plan to fix that as well.

True that, Walker! Obama's powers to heal extend well beyond Earth and, indeed, the entire physical realm we inhabit. Placing faith in Obama is the best advice you could give your precious child. Obama be praised!
Here's a physics question of sorts... Suppose we get into the habit of crashing lots of stuff into the moon in the name of science and/or boredom. The moon's mass would increase, right? Since the material we used to create those satellites, rockets, and such came from Earth, our planet's mass would decrease, correct? With these changes of mass, the respective gravitational fields would change according, right? What kind of ramifications could it have (on ocean tides, our orbit, etc) if the moon gained significant amounts of mass and the Earth lost an equal amount? Could this be the beginning of the end? I'm scared...hold me...

Depends on the weight of the objects crashed vs. the weight of the dust cloud propelled into space. Then, a quick formula applied to the earth weight because of the minimal gravity out there making everything lighter so we are losing mass without the moon increasing at the same rate...........we could be in worse danger than you first thought!!!!!!!

I just hope nobody sends henry to the moon (not), but if they did as big as his/her head is there would definetly be a new crater to be named or the moon would go out of orbit,

Why are we messing with the moon? Why have there been so many strong earthquakes along the Pacific Ring of Fire lately?
Why is the predicted Doomsday, 12-21-12, the same year as the end of President Obama's first term?
Oh so sorry, this was supposed to be light-hearted commentary.
