Friday, October 16, 2009
An Emporia High School senior has been recognized as academically talented by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Katherine Stuchlik has been named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit program and has been awarded a letter of commendation, according to Principal Scott Sheldon.
She is the daughter of Terence and Grace Stuchlik of Emporia.
Katherine is among approximately 34,000 Commended Students in the nation being recognized this fall for their academic promise. The commendation is based on outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test administered in 2008.
Although they will not continue in the competition for 2010 National Merit awards, Commended Students are among the top 5 percent of the students who entered the competition by taking the qualifying test.
